A Little About Me
As you've probably guessed, I am Cynthie Gaetz, a passionate and adaptable educator. After several temporary contracts, I started subbing to get a feel for various grades and subjects while returning to school. This was the best thing I could have done at that point in my teaching career. I have subbed in every grade from pre-K to grade 12! Could I pick a favourite? Nope. Although home ec and math will forever be my favourite subjects, they can be taught to any grade. Have you ever baked muffins with a three-year-old? It is a blast! Messy, but still a blast. Since I strongly believe in lifelong learning, I also chose to go back to school to start toward a master's degree.
All of this was put on hold to start the best and most rewarding role of my life, motherhood. I spent a year on maternity leave learning more than ever and loving every second! I was then fortunate enough to become a part of the amazing St. Dominic School Community. The love and support I received while working at this school allowed me to pursue many of my classroom dreams.
While teaching release and heading into my second maternity leave, I was able to continue my lifelong learning to begin my Master's Degree in Educational Technology and Design. This was one of the best years of my life as I got to be home with my family, travel and learn. Finishing my degree while returning to work in a new position of Pre-K/Release was one of the hardest years of my life, but truly made me stronger. Completing my degree gave me a whole new outlook on life, and I look forward to seeing where it takes me next as I continue teaching and presenting at conferences to help me find where my lifelong educational path will take me.
When I'm not in my classroom, I am spending time with my wonderful family and friends or pursuing one of my many hobbies. I love working with anything that allows me to be creative, such as renovations, gardening, sewing, or upholstery. I also love to get active outside all year long.
